Local Small Businesses Invited to Shape the Future Workforce

News

27th November 2025

The Marches Careers Hub is calling on local small businesses to play a vital role in shaping the future workforce by joining its innovative modern work experience pilot.

As the world of work changes so standard week-long placements for young people are giving way to flexible work experiences that build essential skills and knowledge.

The new work experience model being piloted by the Marches Careers Hub offers young people multiple, progressive encounters with local employers throughout their education journey.

Andriane Usherwood-Brown, Strategic Careers Hub Lead for the Marches Careers Hub said,

“We are keen to work with businesses to ensure that the whole experience is meaningful for both the business and the young person. By getting involved, small businesses can showcase their industry, inspire the next generation, and help students understand the exciting career pathways available right here in their local communities.”

The new model aims to give young people ‘staged experiences’ from year 7 to year 11, allowing them to accumulate up to 10 days’ worth of varied work experience.

Why Should Local Small Businesses Get Involved?

  • Highlight your business and sector to future talent
  • Help young people discover local career opportunities
  • Support economic growth and the development of future skills in Shropshire and surrounding areas

Andriane advises small businesses to get in touch to find out more,

“Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing tech start-up, or a local manufacturer, your participation matters. We want to work with you to create varied, impactful experiences that benefit both young people and local businesses—strengthening our region’s talent pipeline and supporting economic growth”.
