Local businesses and organisations across Shropshire are being asked to support two community-led projects currently fundraising through Crowdfund Shropshire, a civic crowdfunding platform administered by Shropshire Council

Community donations are matched by public funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, helping each contribution go further and maximise local impact.

Shropshire Grief Tending Services CIC is seeking support to expand its network of community grief cafés through its Holding Grief, Growing Hope project. The organisation currently delivers grief cafés at Wem Town Hall, Ludlow Library and Shrewsbury Library, with additional support available in neighbouring areas. Demand for services continues to grow as more people seek compassionate, trauma-informed support following bereavement, loss or significant life change. Read more here

The project aims to create more safe, welcoming spaces where people can come together, access one-to-one support and train as grief volunteers. By extending provision across the county, the initiative will help reduce isolation, strengthen community resilience and support mental health at a local level.

Alongside this, the Cavalier Centre Charity in Much Wenlock is crowdfunding to develop a new inclusive outdoor space. Established in 1995, the volunteer-led charity provides equestrian and therapeutic activities for people with disabilities, supported by more than 200 volunteers. The proposed outdoor space will include sensory features, accessible trails, sheltered areas, a picnic and camping space and a memorial garden, enabling people with hearing and visual impairments to enjoy the outdoors. It will also offer children’s and youth groups the opportunity to stay on site overnight.   Read more here

He encouraged residents and businesses alike to consider making a contribution, noting that even small donations can unlock significant additional funding.

Supporting these projects not only benefits individuals and families across Shropshire but also helps build stronger, healthier communities that underpin long-term economic resilience.
