Pipekit case study
Founded by Martyn Rowlands at his dining room table in 2011, Pipekit is an independent, family owned, plastic pipework and drainage distributor based in Annscroft, a small village on the outskirts of Shrewsbury in Shropshire.
The company is a distributor selling a range of branded, sector leading products to contractors and end users in industry, building services, agriculture and leisure markets throughout the UK and beyond. Pipekit sells online, over the telephone and locally over the trade counter.
Martyn has over 20 years of experience in the plastic pipework industry having worked in senior sales and marketing positions within multi-national plastic pipework manufacturers.
He had no hesitation in starting his highly successful business in Shropshire. Martyn states:
“Shropshire is a fantastic place to live and run a business. The majority of our nine staff live within five miles of our premises and road networks to North and South are easy which has enabled us to serve the rest of the UK on a ‘Next Day’ basis.”
Martyn continues,” Shropshire has some great small businesses and is a fantastically supportive community for start-ups. The cost of premises is extremely reasonable and we have access to a range of excellent local suppliers, services, advice and networking that every business needs to succeed.”
Superfast broadband in the County has also contributed greatly to the company’s success.
Martyn adds, “Excellent broadband connections has allowed us to offer an active e-commerce website, ably supported by our dedicated team who pride themselves on first-class customer service and technical support.”
Despite being a young company, Pipekit has already won a number of awards. In June, Pipekit secured the award for best Micro Business at Shropshire Star Excellence in Business Awards 2016, beating off stern competition.
The company was also finalist in the Excellence in Learning & Skills category following its continuous investment in its apprenticeship and training programmes.
