They are one of Europe’s longest standing architecture and building consultancy practices, with experience dating back to 1835. AHR today is also one of Europe’s largest practices and is a global business encompassing 450 staff in 13 offices.

AHR’s Shrewsbury Office opened on Wyle Cop on 13 May 1955. It later moved to various sites within the town but has continued to operate in Shrewsbury for 60 years. In August 2016 the company relocated to a Grade II listed building steeped in history beside the River Severn.
“It is a great location with amazing views across the River and is a stone’s throw from the bustling town centre” said Bryan Hamilton, Director. “Of the 30 members of staff based in our Shrewsbury office the majority have been with the company for 10-20+ years. People come to Shropshire and they want to stay and it has always been an attractive location for employees coming from outside the area. They are amazed at how much Shropshire has to offer.”
But AHR have remained in Shropshire not only because it is a beautiful place to live and work but because of its location. Bryan added. “We have excellent rail and road networks and access to a wide customer-base across the West Midlands, Wales and beyond.
As architects we require professional and technical expertise in design and construction and 60 years in Shrewsbury is testament to the quality of the skills base available in this region. Although our business ebbs and flows with the vagaries of the construction industry there is still potential growth in our community sectors, particularly in housing, education and healthcare. We are also seeing growth in the private sector with inward investment taking advantage of the superb location and the strong local work ethic.”
