Key Shropshire Sector: Creative & digital industries
Creative and digital industries are growing and thriving in Shropshire – particularly in terms of design, software development and bespoke programming – and the County has a strong track record in attracting and nurturing creative and digital companies and talent.
The county is home to 2,000 creative and digital businesses employing more than 7,000 people – design, marketing, public relations and IT businesses ranging from start-ups through to national players such as Clickingmad Ltd. Other key sub-sectors showing promising growth include advertising and architecture.
The sector is focused in and around our market towns – its success fuelled by outstanding local talent, a low cost base, great connections to the rest of the UK, and a fantastic environment in which to work.
Enabling all this to happen is superfast broadband. This is already available in all our main urban centres and is now being boosted by a £24.6m super fast broadband scheme being rolled out in rural areas.
“Our clients come from all over the UK, we’re easily able to look after them using digital communications and they are often very envious of the beautiful surroundings when visiting our offices for meetings. I would rather have easy travelling to work, nice countryside and a friendly town like Bridgnorth in which to work, rather than fight through the traffic of the ‘big city’.”
Shaun Carvill, MD of Clickingmad
“Once located in Shropshire, we made a concerted effort to gain more local business and were surprised to find just how many very successful large businesses there are in the county….There is a proactive and vibrant creative business community in Shropshire with a willingness to cooperate and collaborate on projects which is very refreshing.”
Alison Wright, Managing Director, Starfish Advertising & Marketing Ltd
“It’s the best of both worlds – a great place to live and we’re on the doorstep of the West Midlands for business.”
Andy Corbett, Design Director, PerfectArc Limited
