Key Shropshire Sector: Agri-tech

Agricultural science and technology is rapidly becoming one of the world’s fastest growing and most exciting markets – and Shropshire is a Centre of Excellence for this sector.

The County is at the forefront of innovation and the application of agricultural technologies: it is the most heavily concentrated area for employment within the agri-tech sector, and is at the heart of the UK’s drive to become a world leader in the field.

Working in partnership with an innovative farming community and the County’s extensive raw material assets, Shropshire’s thriving Agri-tech sector offers companies based here an extraordinary potential to be part of a worldwide success story.

Major companies already established here include award-winning McConnels manufacturers of cultivation machinery, and globally recognised Fullwood – a leading designer and manufacturer of the very latest automated milking robots.

A Precision Agriculture and Engineering Innovation Centre is currently being developed at nearby Harper Adams University (in collaboration with SRUC and Cranfield), which will act as a magnet for future investment, and research is currently being undertaken by the Marches LEP to create an ‘Agritech West’. Based on the Agritech East model, it will be an independent, business-focussed cluster organisation seeking to create a global innovation hub.

“…from a global point of view we have fantastic opportunities ahead of us.”
