Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings’ innovative design gave the world its first iron-framed building, paving the way for the modern sky-scraper and blazing a trail which has since seen other world famous landmark buildings follow – from The Empire State Building to the Burj Khalifa.

Situated just north of Shrewsbury Town Centre, this site offers an exciting regeneration opportunity to develop buildings and/or land for commercial, residential and community uses.

A £28 million redevelopment is currently underway, which includes a £20.7 grant from The National Lottery Fund (HLF). The Main Mill, one of eight listed buildings that comprise the Flaxmill Maltings, is being sensitively restored by current owners Historic England to create airy, spacious and stylish offices, filled with natural light, as part of the redevelopment of this historically significant seven acre site.

Expertly converted to retain the integrity of the original features and character, the newly fitted out Main Mill will be available to the market by March 2021. This will provide four floors and 25,000 square feet of contemporary office space and an additional 3,000 square feet of meeting space. Tenants are being sought to occupy these spaces from 2021. Car parking will also be provided.

The site masterplan, which has outline consent, is currently being revised which includes brownfield land for residential dwellings, the potential restoration and conversion of the other historic building and future commercial opportunities. The historic Apprentice House lends itself to conversion to apartments and will form part of the development offer.
